Joseph W. O’Neill, Jr.
Mr. O’Neill is a multi-lingual, results-driven senior finance and operations executive with over 33 years of experience and a proven track record of transformation and operational excellence. Having a customer-focused philosophy, he offers extensive experience with financial analysis, business development, operations management, fund administration, asset investment, risk and fund administration, including portfolio accounting, audit, data analytics, CRM deployment, compliance and SEC oversight. Mr. O’Neill champions cross-industry uses of automation and technology to improve employee productivity and profits.
Prior to joining Boston Portfolio Advisors, Mr. O’Neill was a finance and business development executive for U.S. Immigration Fund, a $2.8 billion AUM company, where he spent over 4 years overseas raising capital and establishing agency relationships, in India, China, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Brazil, and Mexico. He leveraged his experience to acquire business in Asia’s fiercely competitive markets while producing operating scalability with actionable, granular, and timely information.
For 13 years Mr. O’Neill was the Chief Financial, Operations, and Compliance Officer for Otter Creek Management, Inc. and Otter Creek Advisors, LLC, the GP and management adviser of two long/short equity hedge funds and three ‘40-Act liquid-alt long/short mutual funds. Mr. O’Neill re-engineered and automated processes to provide scalability prior to spearheading growth from $220M to $485M for the two hedge funds and from zero to $350M for its mutual fund. He managed operations, legal, IT, audit, SEC and tax reporting, and investor due diligence and communications. Mr. O’Neill acquired ERISA fiduciary and QPAM designations for Otter Creek, permitting it to manage State pension assets. He implemented rigorous investor protections and policies to supplant Firm and SEC requirements while upholding fiduciary obligations and best execution.
Before joining Otter Creek, Mr. O’Neill consulted for Intertrade Corporation, supporting internet banking ASP structures. He represented Florida Crystals Corporation as a business development executive responsible for its M&A activity in South and Central America. At Ocwen Financial, he was vice president of retail and electronic banking, unsecured recovery, and sub-prime residential lending. Prior to moving to Florida from Michigan in 1993, he was involved in program management for Rockwell International and international business development, manufacturing analysis, and production assembly for Chrysler Corporation.
Mr. O’Neill is a dual citizen of The United States and Brazil, speaks English and Portuguese fluently, and has working knowledge of Spanish and French. He has programmed in multiple computer languages and in settings ranging from factory robotics and vision systems to financial and banking core application systems, both on desktop and enterprise platforms. He received his B.S. Industrial Engineering from Lehigh University and his M.B.A. from The University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He holds active FINRA Series 66, SIE, and Series 7 licenses and a Blockchain Technologies certificate from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
